Solomon Island Hardwood Club
This Solomon Island heavy 34" sword type club has a rich glossy patina and nice dark surface. The tip of the club's head has been ground down at an angle exposing a slightly lighter color and some of the fine surface cracks as well as minor scrapes are slightly lighter as well. The blade has a rounded but upraised medial ridge on either side running from the tip to the pronounced hilt. There is a dark old resinous patch roughly 3/4" across.
The example (#2) on page 219 of The Ethnographical Album of the Pacific Islands by James Edge Partington credits this form as being from Malaita.
