Philippines Salakot Woven Helmet with Original Chinstrap
This beautiful 19th Century Salakot helmet from the Tagalog ethnic group of Luzon in the Philippines would have been worn by someone of status as it is decorated with silver emblems as well as a central spire surrounded by studs at the top. There is also a thin silver metal band with studs around the rim and small metal tabs along the bottom edge of the rim. The original cord chinstrap also has 7 bands on it and a small loop at the base of the cord.
The helmet's exterior woven surface has a few small abrasions/holes. The chinstrap is thinning at one side from wear but is still holding. The helmet is about 12" front to back and just under 11" across at the rim.
