Philippine Isneg Head Axe with Rattan Bands Apayao Province Northern Luzon
This rare type of Headaxe comes from the Apayao Region of Northern Luzon in the Philippines. The overall length of this axe is 21 1/2". The blade thickens toward the cutting edge as well as at the tang where it tucks into the shaft at the ferrule. The top edge of the blade that normally forms a spike is broken at the rear point. The shaft is a brown hardwood that swells toward the base just above the flat pommel. There are 3 lateral hairline cracks in the shaft that run to the pommel but are holding fine. A nice weighted piece with good balance.
