Micronesian Chuukese Barbed Club
This hardwood barbed club originates from Chuuk (formerly Truk) in Micronesia. This example is just under 28" in length. The traditional stacked diamond shape of the club has wonderful reddish golden tones. There are small double ended barbs radiating from the center of both sides of each of the five diamond shaped sections. Out of the small double ended central points there are four small chipped points out of the twenty. The surface of this early 20th Century club has an old layer of shellac and some tiny spots of old white paint.
A similar example can be seen in the book IN DEN WEITEN DES PAZIFIK - MIKRONESIAN on plates 121 & 122.
