New Guinea Upper Ramu River Figure
Upper Ramu River Region figure from the Madang Province, of Papua New Guinea. 16 1/2" tall carved figure with hooklike projections above and below the face, as well as a tapered "stacked" finial on top of the head. The back of the head has a repeated triangular or zig zag pattern from the finial, along the edges to the neck area. Both thin arms point away from the body at the torso, returning at the waist. Tiny rounded feet at the end of tapered legs. Old thin residual shellac or varnish on carving's surface.
