Fantastic Early 20th Century Kalinga Headaxe with Metal Overlay
This old Headaxe is a great looking example measuring 21 5/8" tall with a head 14" long x 2 3/4" tall head. The thin metal overlay appears to be brass and possibly copper with a rich old patina. The small stem that is usually missing from the handle's bottom is still present. The head's top edge is narrower than the bottom edge and the rear spike is thicker toward the tip. The cutting edge is quite sharp.
The axe was acquired a year ago as part of a large Southern California collection of Philippine material that had been stored by a family since 1936 when it was all sent to a soldier's girlfriend while he was stationed there between 1934 and 1936.
