New Guinea Abelam Yam Mask with Lips
This Abelam Yam Mask from the Wosera area of Papua New Guinea has a small woven mouth at the bottom of the mask. The thick paint has some loss at the edges and the front edge and shows some signs of patination in the same areas. There is a small hole at the top of the mask but nothing serious. The backside shows how finely woven the piece is. The mask appears to be mid to late 20th century and measures 14 3/4" tall.
