Australian Aboriginal Trio of Tiwi Ceremonial Clubs Irrawella
This trio of early 20th Century Tiwi Ceremonial clubs is carved from a dark reddish brown hardwood and is covered in pigment designs. The tallest club with the single spike on top has a bright green trade paint that appears to have been added on later in the club's life. The tallest club is 22 3/4" long, the widest club is 21 1/2" long, and the three pronged one is 18 1/2" long. The fingerlike projections on the widest club have some loss and blunting and the spike on the narrow club has been slightly blunted. The camera's flash has lightened the dark color of the wood as well as the pigment in the photos.
These Tiwi clubs recently turned up in an old Los Angeles collection of edged weapons.
