New Guinea Collingwood Bay shield
This New Guinea Collingwood Bay type of shield is enveloped in a split rattan sleeve with rattan handle on it's reverse. This 30 1/2" tall shield was brought back from New Guinea by a Southern California missionary between the 1950s - 1960s and shows some signs of age/wear on the top and bottom edges. The split rattan wrapping has come partially undone from the the handle's right side but the handle is still holding fine.
This piece displays great and features beautifully woven zigzag patterns in the split rattan wrapping.
