African Zulu Wire Wrapped Knobkerrie
This wire wrapped club is most likely Zulu, but possibly Shona or Tsonga. The overall length of the piece is 26". The head of this hardwood club is covered with beautiful two tone spiral pattern work and there are repeated woven wire bands under the collar at the pommel, shaft's center, as well as extending about 5 3/4" below the club's head. The pommel has a small hole through it where a strap would have hung originally.
The camera flash has brightened up the wire around the shaft which is darker than it appears in the photos due to reflection. An outstanding and rare specimen.
