Australian Aboriginal Hairpin Churinga Western Australia
This Hairpin Churinga is carved from a dark hardwood and has a wonderful interlocked pattern on one side. These were worn by Senior Men in their hair as ceremonial decoration. One tip has a chip and there is a small shallow chip along one edge toward the opposite tip. The overall length is 18" the backside has small foot track decoration in two different sizes at one end and in one size at the opposite end. Some very minimal light traces of red pigment on the wood's surface.
