Philippine Ifugao Shirt or Jacket Early 20th Century
This beautiful early 20th century example of an Ifugao Shirt or Jacket with a Mandarin style collar is in great shape as it is deadstock. The measurements are as follows: Chest width is 18 1/2" / from collar to bottom hem is 17 3/4" / shoulder to shoulder is 18" / sleeve length is 8 3/4" / armpit to bottom hem is 8 1/2". In the blue and white stripes there are repeated patterns of snakes, people, and other designs.
This textile was recently acquired in a large Southern California collection of Philippine material that had been stored by a family since 1936 when it was all sent to a girlfriend by a soldier while he was stationed there between 1934 and 1936.
