New Hebrides War Axe with Trade Blade
A nice old New Hebrides war axe with a trade blade fitted on to a carved carmel colored hardwood shaft with a partial mushroom or dome type pommel. The axe head has pitting and a chipped top point of the blade's edge. The shaft has a repaired crack along the shaft under the head as well as a small area of loss to the section that is under the axe head toward the front side. The pommel is missing a lot of it's rim so it now appears as a pie slice shape when viewed from the bottom as opposed to the circular shape that it originally was. All of these edge chips are heavily patinated over as it is very old damage.
The overall length of this piece is just over 28".
