Melanesian War Axe with Trade Blade Ex Billy Jamieson Collection
A fantastic old Melanesian war axe appears to be from the Solomon Islands (the pointed pommel is common in their clubs) with an early trade blade fitted on to the carved palmwood shaft. The axe head is heavily rusted and there are a few edge chips at the top and bottom edge of the section where the shaft fits into it. The palmwood has some loss at the pointed pommel's tip but the old example is still quite sturdy. The overall length of this piece is just over 27".
This unique oceanic weapon was part of the late William "Billy" Jamieson's collection of Tribal Artifacts.
