Naga Headhunting Charm Necklace
Rare Naga Headhunting charm necklace with a 3" tall tattooed head carved from a lightweight yellowish wood with attached hair at the top and a pair of dyed goat hair & rattan earrings. The goat hair is starting to detach at the top of the earrings and the left ear has an old glue repair which is barely visible. This hard to find headhunting piece was collected during the Second World War along with an earplug. The plug is missing an inner stem or backing as well as some of the seed decoration. The original note that came with these is also included.
Similar examples of these wooden tattooed charms can be seen in the book The Nagas - Hill Peoples of Northeast India by Julian Jacobs on pages 191 -199.
