Solomon Island Leaf Bladed Club from Santa Isabel or Florida Island
This Solomon Island leaf headed club is most commonly found on Santa Isabel or Florida Island. The piece appears to be an early 20th Century piece and measures just over 47" in length. The dark brown tones show dark graining to the wood. There are some tiny insect holes in the blade and shaft, some of which have thin needle-like pieces of rattan inserted into them. These are found in the edges of the bladed head section.
The 4 3/4" wide head has a raised central rib on either flat side. The shaft is an oval shape with a subtle lateral rib on either side and the 4 1/2" long pommel terminates into a point. There is a worn label on one side of the shaft just above the the head but it is fragmented and no longer readable.
A beautiful example of Solomon Islands weaponry.
