New Guinea Manam Island Kundu Drum
This New Guinea Kundu drum is from Mandang Province, and features an ancestral head at either end of it's handle. Two sections have loss to the pierced rows of lugs, but the damaged area is patinated over. Standing 19 3/4" tall, the drum looks like an older specimen from the carving and wear. The red and black trade paint have darkened over time from use to beautiful tones. The monitor drumhead appears to be a later replacement from when the drum was purchased during the 1970s.
