New Guinea Asmat Bowl with Figural Handle
New Guinea Asmat older bowl with figural head shaped handle at one end. Slender bowl that measures 29 3/4" in length and is thick walled, with six repeated bands of raised zigzag patterns across the underside. the head finial has some loss, and the opposite end of the bottom side has some scratches. The rim of the bowl's walls have intricate designwork covering the surface. Some residual pigment is still present surrounding the bands on the underside. A similar example can be seen on the top of page 115 in Asmat Leben Mit Den Ahnen 1981 by Gunter Konrad , Ursula Konrad, and Tobias Schneebaum.
