New Guinea Sepik River Area Figure
New Guinea Ancestral Figure from the Sepik River region. This figure stands 10" tall and still retains most of it's black trade paint as well as both inlaid cowrie shell eyes.
The base has two inactive insect holes on the bottom side as well as a native repair using thin sheet metal and two handmade nails. There is a old possible knot hole in the left buttock that also contains some of the trade paint.
This figure has some really nice signs of age wear - the base has adze marks. It also has very strong Sepik facial characteristics as well as body decorations on his arms and legs. A very gracefully carved piece.
